USPS Proposes New Prices for July 2025

May 13, 2025 Micaela Dixon No comments yet

As we roll through May (we’re half way through!), we want to keep you in the loop on what’s happening in the world of mail! Today’s hot topic: the USPS has proposed mid-year price changes for mailing services. It’s pretty typical for the Postal Service to review and adjust prices twice a year—once at the start and again around midyear—and this summer’s updates are now on the table.

Proposed for July 13, 2025, the cost of sending mail is getting a little boost—like a First-Class Mail Forever stamp going from 73¢ to 78¢. (Guess our stamps are feeling fancy.)

ProductCurrent PricesProposed Prices
Letters (1 ounce)73 cents78 cents
Letters (metered 1 ounce)69 cents74 cents
Domestic postcards56 cents62 cents
International postcards$1.65$1.70
International letter (1 ounce)$1.65$1.70

The U.S. Postal Service has let the Postal Regulatory Commission (a.k.a. the mail price bosses) know that they plan to raise mailing service prices by about 7.4%. That includes:

  • A 1¢ increase for each extra ounce on letters (from 28¢ to 29¢—so that birthday card with a photo of your dog just got slightly pricier).
  • Changes to some Special Services, too—but good news: postal insurance is actually going down 12%! (We love a plot twist.)

Why the price jump? USPS says it’s part of their “Delivering for America” 10-year plan to keep things running smoothly—and financially sound—as mail trends continue to shift.

Oh, and for businesses that use Marketing Mail or Package Services, USPS is juggling two different price sets as they await approval to retire Bound Printed Matter and expand Marketing Mail. Only one set will take effect in July, but they’re prepping for either scenario.
